What is the value of your child? How much would you be willing to spend to protect him or her.? You are probably saying what kind of questions are those? The answers are simple my child is priceless, and I would be willing to spent every dime and then some to protect them.

I like you could not and would not put a price tag on my children’s safety.  I am about to tell you how you can not only protect your children now but for years to come for under $5.00 a month.

The protection I am talking about is protecting your child from the dangers of the Internet. Internet safety is an area where a vast numbers of good parents are missing the boat. As parents we protect our kids from all sorts of dangers and inappropriate situations, yet we fall short many times in the area of Internet safety. The things that enter the minds of our children do make a lasting impression why would you them allow the filth in your home via the Internet.

The answer, just as an oil filter filters out the crud that might enter your engines components and damage them. A good Internet filter will filter out the garbage that can and will destroy your child and your home. My question dear parent is why would you not filter and monitor your computer? If you have any sense at you would realize the importance of Internet safety.

After reading the above statement no doubt you said there is no price tag great enough for protecting my family. Is it worth $5.00 a month? Then do the research and install an Internet filter and monitoring software and talk to your family about the dangers of the Internet.

The Internet is a wonderful tool that children have the ability to access today at the click of a mouse. The Internet is also a place of danger that parents need to warn and protect their kids from.  Parents need to engage their children in conversation and warn them of the dangers that lurk on the World Wide Web.

Conversation is great yet Internet goes well beyond mere words. The three main keys are, educate, monitor and filter the Internet.

WASHINGTON, July 28, 2009 – Parents and educators need to educate children about online safety issues, rather than censoring content, a panel of think tanks, industry officials, and online safety experts agreed on Monday.

Are you not glad that there is a panel of experts out there that know how we should and should not raise our kids? I’m sorry but some people get so smart that they are stupid. Monitoring and yes filtering the Internet is not censoring, but being a responsible parent.

Parents of course need to educate but it needs to be coupled with monitoring and some type of Internet filter or parental controls. Kids are very smart today they need parents that are on top of the issues they are dealing with on the Internet. Please don’t fall into the trap of giving your child full access to the Internet.

We need to protect our families from the dangers of the Internet. There is a way to safely surf the Internet if you want to call the area of filtering censorship you go right ahead.

But as for me and my house we will filter, monitor and educate our children in regards to the Internet.

Tips for Parents on Internet safety

Most of us are familiar the image of Charlton Hesston coming down the mountain with gleaming white hair and holding two tablets that were written from the hand of God. This was a scene from the movie The Ten Commandments. Now I am not claiming the following tips are inspired from God. The following tips are just a few thoughts from a parent of three teenagers.

The Internet is a tool that must be used safely I hope these tips are a help.

1. I will not give out any personal information over the internet without my parents’ permission.

2. I will tell my parents right away if I come across any information that makes me feel uncomfortable.

3. When using the internet I will not use my picture or pictures of my family members.

4. The computer will be in the family room (not in a child’s room).

5. I will never agree to meet anyone that I met online without checking with my parents first.

6. I will not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make me feel uncomfortable.

7. I will not give out my internet password to anyone, not even my best friends, other than my parents.

8. I will check with my parents before downloading or installing software or doing anything that could possibly hurt our computer or jeopardize my family’s privacy.

9. I will be a good online and not to do anything that hurts other people or is against the law.

10. I will help my parents to understand what I like online, how to have fun, and teach them about how to use the internet, the computers, and all technology.

Internet safety is not just for kids who go online. A growing number of seniors are also starting to surf the World Wide Web. Many are using it for social networking and match making.

“The fastest growing demographic group on Facebook is women over the age of 55,” says Debra Berlyn, who runs the Consumer Privacy Awareness Project.

The same type of protection we stress for our children is just as important to our seniors who are surfing the Internet. Parents today should monitor and filter what their kids are doing online, but parents and grandparents need to realize the Internet is just as dangerous for them.

Remember nothing is personal on the Internet talk to the seniors in your family and warn them not to give out any personal information online. Inform them that once they click that send button it’s gone.

Protect those you love with Internet protection. Instruct and inform your loved ones of the perils of the Internet, and offer them a way to be safe online with a good Internet monitoring and filtering system.

It Takes A Village to Raise a Child.

Most of us have heard of this book by Hillary Rodham Clinton. The village that is being spoken of is the government. The title gives the opinion that you can’t raise your child without our governments help.

I’m not sure where you stand on this, but as for me I don’t want or need the government telling me how to raise my child. With that said I want to discuss the area of the Internet. Some lawmakers and local politicians would say “you must allow full access to the Internet to those who would want it” this is including children.

This is the parent’s responsibility not the government, we as parents must control what and what not our children have access to. Parents don’t need big brother to raise their children and to admonish parents who limit or restrict what their children have permission to view. The Internet is a vast domain of wonder and excitement; it is also a place of danger.

Do not fall prey to those who would mock and scold you for filtering what your kids have access to. You have the right and the responsibility to do so. Open your eyes and stop, look and listen to what your family is doing on the Internet.

It takes a parent to raise a child

The Internet is a great tool, but you need to have the proper safety installed on it to protect you and your family. Sit down and do your research there are a number of Internet filters on the market. Choose the one that is right for your family and use it.

I ran across this quote on an Internet safety site and I found myself saying ” what are you stupid or what” Here it is and I will explain.

Parents need to understand that the greatest risk our children face online is being denied access. The Internet is essential to our children’s education, future careers and lives. But even the most experienced Internet user doesn’t understand how children use the Internet and how to help them have a safer and more enjoyable surfing experience.

I’m sorry I don’t get it the greatest danger they face online is being grated to much access. The same thinking would lead you to say, don’t stop your kids from drinking or smoking for this will cause grave danger to them. Bringing up children in the day and age we live in is a BATTLE.

There are those that would like nothing more than to destroy your unsuspecting innocent children. The Internet is a place of good and evil it is a place that must be monitored and yes if need be cut off from your children. Please don’t fall into the trap of these so called educators who would say “Don’t keep a tight lease on your kids, trust them and allow them to explore for if you don’t you will push them away.”

HOGWASH Make sure you parent them this means lead, guide and yes saying NO when needed. Do the research and educate yourself in regards to protecting your family from the dangers of the Internet.

In the most recent case, a 14-year-old took her own life on Friday evening.

Her mother told Radio 3AW that cyber bullying may have contributed to her daughter’s death.

“I want to tell people to keep their kids off the rotten Internet, it’s a horrible place,” she said.

This is a very sad story indeed. Cyber bullying is a growing trend among our youth. The fact is words hurt and yes at time words can take the life of teens across the country. My Mother is a wise lady, but one thing she had wrong was the saying “sticks and stones may break your bones but words can never hurt you” sorry Mom your wrong.

The Internet is a place full of rotten horrible things; it is also a place of vast goodness. We as parents must take a proactive approach to Internet safety. This needs to be something that is in the for front of our minds. There are cruel people out there and many use the Internet as their stomping grounds. I am not claiming to know everything nor be the all knowing all wise parent, but here are a few tips that I would suggest.

You are who your friends are-(know your kids friends)

You are what you read——– (keep a tab on the books or magazines your kids read)

Be a parent, not a friend——– (your kids will get mad at you sometimes, but you’re the parent you are guiding and protecting them)

Limit Internet usage————— (how about go outside and play)

Install monitoring software on your computer—(you have the right and you have the responsibility to check up on your kids.)

Talk, Talk, Talk, ———————- (have an open line of communication with your kids)

Do your homework—————– (learn what your kids are interested in)

This is but the tip of the ice berg, we could go on listing dozens of tips. There is no one answer to protect your kids from Cyber bulling. The key is be consistent and diligent in your monitoring of the use of the Internet in your home

Sounds like something from a Star wars movie, yes officer my space ship was stolen while I was in Taco Bell, or officer someone stole my lightsaber. The fact is Cyber crime is real and it is affecting people every day.

Generally refers to criminal activity where a computer or network is the source, tool, target, or place of a crime.

The vast majority of homes in America have at least one computer. This device of modern technology can be used by certain individuals to gain entry into personal and private information that is accessed via your computer.

Protect yourself and your family by discussing basic internet guidelines
